Student Loans

Scholarships are great, but there aren't enough out there for everyone. It's very common for students to take out loans in order to cover the cost of a college education. There are a variety of options, from both public and private sources.

Federal student loans generally have the best interest rates and most generous repayment terms. If you join the military, Peace Corps, Teach for America or other approved service organizations after college, some of your federal loans may be forgiven. In order to apply for federal aid (in the form of scholarships, grants or loans), you'll need to fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).

Private student loans may cost you a bit more, but they are the most readily available source for college funding. If you aren't eligible for scholarships and your federal aid doesn't cover the whole cost of your tuition, a private loan can help make up the difference. Though the interest rates may be higher, an education is still one of the most important investments you'll make in your lifetime, and well worth the cost of paying back your loan.
